The Board of Trustees of the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District has recently undertaken a review of the St. James Regional High School System with
the potential for LeGallais Memorial to close.
The process included consultation with school councils, administrators, and the school communities.
The following motion was table at the February 3, 2018 meeting of the Board of Trustees:
WHEREAS the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District is committed to providing the best possible educational programs for students; and,
WHEREAS school closure is required to achieve that objective;
BE IT RESOLVED that:
LeGallais Memorial will close effective June 2018 and all students will be rezoned to attend St. James Elementary/High effective September 2018.
The motion did not pass and LeGallais Memorial will remain open for the 2018-2019 school year.
Correspondence provided to the school community can be found below.
The Newfoundland and Labrador English School District has compiled an information booklet which contains details about the impacted schools.
Members of the school communities are encouraged to review the information booklet and then provide feedback to the District.
Please find below the recent Board meeting presentation of the school system review.
The Board of Trustees would like to thank all members of the school community who provided their feedback throughout
the process and also to the school councils and administrations of both schools for their invaluable contributions.
