It brings me great pleasure to mark Education Week 2018 in our province on behalf of the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District. Education Week is a time to highlight the many exciting approaches to education, while underscoring the importance of learning in our daily lives. The theme for this year is Believe and Achieve: Je crois en moi, je reussis! - a guiding idea that we can all benefit from reflecting on this week.
Focus, hard work, and dedication is the route to success, and setting achievable goals will help you accomplish all you desire. As a school District we set organizational goals that we feel will enhance the education of our students. These form our strategic plan and include:
- enhancing supports for student success in literacy, numeracy, and other important curriculum areas;
- enhancing the safe and caring learning environment of our schools; and,
- providing enhanced school leadership development and organizational effectiveness.
We believe in our goals to improve the education system in our province and with everyone working together, we know we can achieve what we have set out to do.
I find it very fitting that during Education Week we are also marking Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week. Through these weeks of recognition our students and their families have the opportunity to thank members of their school community who have helped them along the way and guided them to a path of personal and academic achievement.
It is our hope that this week, each and every student is inspired to believe in the power of education. The work undertaken in our schools each and every day truly does matter. It matters to our communities, the province and, indeed, the entire country. Our young people are the greatest resource Newfoundland and Labrador has to offer and we know each and every one of them can achieve greatness. I encourage you this week to thank those around you who have made a positive impact on your education and keep up the great work as you strive for success.
